Things To Do

Swan's Island is the perfect getaway, especially for outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, and biking.  In addition, there are several points of interest around the island that deserve time on your itinerary.   Make sure you visit their individual website for more details.

Burnt Coat Harbor Light House

Grounds are open year round, dawn to dusk.

Light house and keeper's house are open seasonally June - September.

Swan's Island Lobster & Marine Museum

The museum tells the story of fishing on Swan's Island and is open June - September.

Swan's Island Historical Society Museum

Housed in a donated church property, the history museum is open by chance.

Swan's Island Library

While a library may not be a typical stop during your vacations, this is not a typical library.  Larger than some public libraries, this private institution offers a huge selection of reading materials, movies and programming.  They are open year round and encourage visitors to stop by and attend functions.

The Island Market & Supply (TIMS)

We have one small grocery store on the island that is open year round.  It's not big, but it does have a nice selection...everything from milk and bread to produce and meats to pantry staples.

TIMS also makes fresh-baked pizzas on Wednesday and Friday nights.  Call 207-526-4410 to place your order.

24-hour notice suggested.

Other than the pizza, there are no restaurants or take-outs on the island, so plan accordingly.

Swan's Island is currently a "dry" community.  This means that you can not purchase alcoholic beverages of any kind on the island, but you are welcome to provide your own.  We find many of our guests like to bring a bottle of wine with them, especially if they are celebrating a special occasion.

            E-Bikes

E-bikes are now available for rent on the                      island! You can pick up at Trafton's Wharf or they can deliver to the ferry landing. Call 207-266-5600 to reserve!

The motel is not affiliated with this service provider.

You must call the number above for more information.

Outdoor Attractions and Activities

Even at the height of summer, the local waters are always refreshingly cool.  A few favorite places to swim are the Quarry Pond and Fine Sand Beach, both pictured below.  Originally a working granite quarry, this swimming hole filled with rain water after being abandoned in the 20s.  An easy climb to the top provides stunning vistas of the island as well.  After a brief hike through some of our primeval forest, Find Sand Beach offers a great location for sunning, swimming, and sea glass hunting.  Carrying Place is another beach that is even easier to access with parking right beside the road.

There are countless areas to hike, bike and kayak.  You'll have to bring your own equipment, but it's well worth the effort if you truly want to explore the island.
